Kean, a comprehensive New Jersey state university, is seeking faculty from all disciplines for its additional instructional location in Wenzhou, China. Wenzhou is one of the most vibrant and economically advanced cities on China’s East Coast, located one hour by plane and just over three hours by high-speed train from Shanghai. Launched in 2012, Wenzhou-Kean University (WKU) sits on approximately 500 beautiful acres and is now in the midst of a growth phase that will bring enrollment to more than 5,000 students. WKU offers a unique model of higher education provided by a comprehensive, public University, approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. All instruction is in English and all curriculum is provided by Kean USA.

Wenzhou-Kean University programs comprise the following majors: Teaching English in Global Settings (B.A.); Computer Science (B.S.); Finance (B.S.); Accounting (with emphasis on international standards and practices) (B.S.); Global Business (B.S.); Marketing (B.S.); Graphic Design (B.F.A.); Architecture (B.A.); Management (Entrepreneurship Option and Supply Chain Management Option) (B.S.); Mathematics (Data Analytics Option) (B.A.); and Psychology (B.A.). In 2018, we are adding a major in Biology/Cell & Molecular (B.S.). In addition, Wenzhou-Kean has a substantial commitment to the teaching of ESL/EFL.

All faculty positions are full-time assignments, effective for the start of the fall or spring semester. Positions will be offered at either the tenure-track or Lecturer level. Tenure-track appointments are available at the rank of Assistant  Professor and require teaching assignments (24 credits per academic year); student and learning support services; advising; service to the university and/or professional community; and research. A Lecturer is a full-time employee who teaches and provides student and learning support services during the assigned periods.  Ten-month lecturers teach 30 credits per academic year; twelve-month lecturers teach 39 credits per year. Lecturers teach; provide student and learning support services; service to the university and/or professional community; and perform related work as required. Lecturer positions are non-tenure track and may be renewed on an annual basis. Teaching assignments and related responsibilities may include day, evening, weekend and online courses. Interest or experience in using advanced instructional technologies to improve the teaching/learning process is highly desirable. All faculty may be required to teach General Education courses.

Qualifications: A Doctorate degree is required in the relevant or a related field for tenure-track positions; ABD considered with completion prior to the effective date of employment. A terminal degree is required for tenure-track positions in Graphic Design and Architecture. Master’s degree in a related field is required for Lecturer positions. A minimum of one year of teaching experience at the post-secondary level and English fluency is required for all positions.

English: Rhetoric & Composition; Business, Professional and Technical Writing; ESL/EFL; TESL/TEFL; World Literature to teach a combination of (1) general ESL/EFL classes, (2) First-Year Composition classes, (3) World Literature, (4) translation and (5) writing/rhetoric, linguistics and EFL/ESL methods and teaching techniques within the Teaching English in Global Settings major. Computer Science – to teach a full range of undergraduate Computer Science courses (CSO/1/2 in Java). Tenure-track candidates should demonstrate scholarly capability and an active research agenda in core areas of computer science. Contact: Search Committee Chairperson at wkucnahs@kean.edu.

Business: Accounting, Business Law/Business Ethics, Global Business, Management (Entrepreneurship and Supply Chain Management), Finance and Marketing – to teach all levels of the undergraduate Accounting, Finance, Management and Marketing curriculum or undergraduate courses in Business Law/Business Ethics. The Management area has openings for Supply Chain Management as well as Entrepreneurship. Relevant practical accounting (including with computerized accounting systems) and/or business experience or relevant legal experience is important and is a plus.  All candidates must demonstrate a commitment to teaching and best practices in international education.  Tenure-track candidates are expected to provide leadership in the growth and transformation of a world class business school. It is preferred that the required Doctorate degree for tenure-track positions is earned from an AACSB or EQUIS accredited program. Graphic Design – to teach a full range of undergraduate courses (interactive, print, screen) in graphic design and/or advertising design. Tenure-track candidates are expected to provide leadership in the growth and development of the program in strong co-operation with colleagues at Kean USA. Architecture – to teach a full range of undergraduate Architecture courses (e.g. Studio, Representation, Elements/Principles courses). Tenure-track candidates are expected to provide leadership in the growth and development of the program in strong co-operation with colleagues at Kean USA. Mathematics to teach a variety of mathematics courses at the undergraduate level including calculus and linear algebra. Preference will be given to tenure-track candidates with evidence of scholarship and teaching capability in the areas of data analytics and statistics. Biological Sciences  to teach a wide range of courses in the biological sciences with an emphasis in ecology.  Typical courses will include lab and non-lab instruction such as Introduction to Biology; General Biology Iⅈ Biology & Society; and Environmental Science.  All candidates must demonstrate a commitment to teaching and best practices in international education. Contact: Search Committee Chairperson at wku-bio@kean.edu.

Opportunities are also available to teach disciplinary support courses in the areas listed below. Candidates must also have the ability to teach additional General Education support courses as needed. Candidates with an interest in teaching across disciplines are encouraged to apply.

Political Science – to teach Intro. to Politics; Comparative Politics; International Relations; and American Government as part of General Education requirements, with the ability to also teach upper division electives in Political Science. Art History – to teach undergraduate Art History courses ranging from Pre-history to Modern. History – to teach a Worlds of History course as part of the General Education requirement, with the ability to also teach U.S. History I and II, as well as upper division courses in American Cultural and Business History.
