Dr. Yu has taught 21 courses at Kean and other institutions, ranging from medical school courses for orthopedic residents to lower-level biology courses for undergraduate students. As a Resident Research Associate of the American Museum of Natural History in New York City and an Invited Research Professor of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, he conducts joint research on fossil fishes.

Degree Information: Ph.D. in Biology, Yale University, 1990; M.S. in paleontology from the Chinese University of Science and Technology, 1981.

Primary Area of Expertise:  Vertebrate paleontology, comparative anatomy and evolution, with a focus on the origin and evolution of bony fishes and lobe-finned fishes, which gave rise to land vertebrates (e.g. amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals including humans).

Advice for Students Preparing for Your Class: "Take the required pre-requisite courses so that you have the proper foundation for the class. Be prepared to work hard. Motivate yourself by setting realistic goals and by broadening your intellectual interest."
