Program Description

Exercise science is a field of study committed to understanding the acute and chronic physiological responses to sport, exercise, and physical activity. Exercise science professionals work as an integral part of a wellness team in corporate, clinical, community, and commercial fitness and wellness centers evaluating health behaviors and risk factors, conducting fitness assessments, writing appropriate exercise prescriptions, and motivating individuals to modify negative health habits and maintain positive lifestyle behaviors (CAAHEP.org). Careers include fitness instructor, strength and conditioning coach, clinical exercise specialists, exercise physiologist, wellness coordinator, and many others.

Job Outlook

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics (2017), future job growth for exercise science related careers is projected to be 13% from 2016 to 2026, faster than the average for all occupations. Fitness-related careers are also growing faster than average at 10% between 2016 and 2026.
