Public Administration

The demand for highly-trained workers in the not-for-profit and public service sectors has never been greater. The Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration offered by Kean University’s Department of Public Administration provides students with the information, skills, and insight needed to excel in careers in the not-for-profit and public service sectors.

Kean is one of only four higher education institutes in New Jersey accredited in the field of public administration by the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA).

Our undergraduate program combines a firm theoretical foundation with an understanding of practical applications. Teaching methods in both elective and required courses stress the use of case studies, hands-on experience, and simulations that demonstrate how theory and concepts evolve into practical applications.

The Master of Public Administration is accredited by NASPAA and is designed to prepare graduates for middle or senior level positions as public administrators. The primary focus of the program is on in-service students seeking to undertake graduate study on a part-time basis in order to upgrade and improve their practical skills and theoretical backgrounds. These students come from municipal, county, state, and non-profit agencies in the region served by Kean University. Each year a small number of students are admitted without extensive government experience.

At Kean University, we offer three undergraduate programs for Public Administration:

B.A. In Public Administration
M.P.A. (General Option, Health Services Option, Non-Profit Management Option)
B.A./M.P.A   Five-Year Combined Accelerated Honors Program
