GREAT PLACES TO EAT AT KEAN UNIVERSITY

A wide variety of on-campus dining options await Kean University students, including:

University Center Food Court 

Containing nearly a dozen themed stations, the UC Food Court offers students a multitude of freshly prepared choices; from Mexican and Italian Specialties, to a healthy salad bar, to an “attractions station” offering 3 different selections each day, there is certainly no shortage of options at the food court!

University Center Cougar’s Den

The newly remodeled Cougar's Den is a relaxing atmosphere for enjoying an all-organic menu of gourmet sandwiches, soups, salads, and specialty entrees.  Students can enjoy a pre-class meal in the glass-enclosed atrium, offering 360-degree panoramic views the campus center.  

Residence Hall Cafeteria

The cafeteria located in the New Upperclassmen Residence Hall is an “all you care to eat” option, open to the entire university community, not just to resident students.  The cafeteria features a variety of options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Starbucks

The Starbucks coffee house, located within the Nancy Thompson Library, is the second largest on a college campus, and one of the most lavishly furnished in the state of New Jersey.  In addition to the famous Starbucks coffees, this eatery offers a wide vary of healthy cuisine, including breakfast options.  

Café Yumba

Café Ymba is an innovative business-causal eatery, located on the university’s East Campus, offering freshly prepared food and a variety of suave drinks and snacks.  Comprised of elegant furniture, an all-brick patio, beautiful flower arrangements, and a plasma television, this establishment sets itself apart from other local cafes and coffee shops.

Ursino

Ursino Restaurant is where American history meets the modern world, and is considered by many as one of the top dining experiences in New Jersey.  Ursino provides this memorable experience through its emphasis on outstanding, knowledgeable, and attentive service, and the use of local products in its menu, featuring organic vegetables from the Kean University garden.

RESIDENCE HALLS AT KEAN UNIVERSITY

The newest housing options available to residents of the Kean University campus are not to be missed! Offering comfort and style, a wide variety of amenities, and eye-catching views of New York City, these suite--style complexes truly provide students with a “home away from home.”  

The beautiful, newly constructed, Freshman Residence Hall accommodates approximately 420 freshman students in fully furnished, four-person, suites.  Designed in the traditional-style, each suite is comprised of two double bedrooms connected by a large common area and private bathroom.  With brand-new furnishings, striking views, and amenities such as cable TV, telephone, Internet, and individually controlled air conditioning/heating systems, each suite is guaranteed to be a modern, convenient, and comfortable place for students to feel at home!  

Comfort and convenience continues throughout the sleek new facility, with two resident assistants per floor, and a Floor Lounge on every level; outfitted with sofas, chairs, a flat screen TV, and of course those beautiful views!  In addition, the first floor of the building features a large Main Lounge with flat screen TV’s, a Game Room, several Multipurpose Rooms, and laundry facilities with coinless washers and dryers.    

The newly constructed Upperclassman Residence Hall comfortably accommodates 408 upperclassmen in style!  A variety of living options are available, including apartments with two double bedrooms, three double bedrooms, or four single bedrooms.  Each is fully furnished, boasts beautiful views, and includes amenities such as cable TV, telephone, internet, and an individually controlled air conditioning/heating system.  Bedroom furnishings include beds, wardrobes, and desks, and the living areas are furnished with sofas, chairs, end tables, and TV stands.  Each apartment includes a private bathroom and a full kitchen furnished with a dining table and chairs, a full-size refrigerator, microwave, and cabinetry.  

The first floor of the Upperclassmen Residence Hall is designed to meet a student’s every need!  Residents can relax in front of a flat screen TV in the Main Lounge, challenge friends to a round in the Game Room, or catch up on coursework in the facility’s full Computer Lab.  In addition, the first floor is home to the 300-seat “all you can eat” Cafeteria, and a 50-seat screening room.  Rounding out the first floor amenities are the student mailboxes, vending machines, coinless laundry facilities, a flexible multipurpose room, and the Residence Hall Director’s Office.  

Kean University residence halls accommodate approximately 2.000 students in a variety of living style options; with all that residence life has to offer, students are sure to feel right at home in whichever option best suits their needs!

ACTIVITIES AT KEAN UNIVERSITY

Kean University is located in Union, New Jersey, on 180 pristine acres.  The campus features a vibrant community, comprised of students from all across the world, and offers a full spectrum of activities, programs, and services for its students.  From fitness, recreation, and gaming to professional theater, art, and cultural exhibits, Kean provides students with a wide variety of ways to “play!”  

The three recreation centers located on campus offer something for everyone, and every fitness level; providing state-of-the-art equipment, aquatics, arenas, and indoor tracks.  In addition, a wide variety of fitness classes are offered weekly, and available intramural sports include flag football, tennis, volleyball, soccer, and softball.  

Three game rooms and a countless number of lounges and community rooms, are also available for students to enjoy, offering activities such as billiards, video games, table tennis, and flat screens TV’s. 

For high-quality art, culture, and entertainment, students can rely on the five performing art venues located on campus to deliver access to professional theatre, Broadway tours, dance companies, and concert artists for free or discounted rate.  In recent years, Kean has played host to a variety of well-known artists, comedians, musicians, and speakers, including; George Lopez, John Legend, hip-hop artist Fabulous, and Maya Angelou. 

Just 30 minutes by train to midtown, Kean combines the beauty and serenity of a suburban campus, with easy access to everything Manhattan has to offer.  The NJ Transit Union Train Station, located right on campus, provides a direct connection to the unparalleled energy, innovation, and opportunities found only in New York City!  In addition, the New Jersey Shore is also just 30 minutes away, via the NJ Transit Elizabeth Train Station.

Student Life

Student Life on campus intends to bring together a community of students through the multitude of clubs and organizations available while providing a means to build leadership skills and include volunteering and community service as an addition to the education received at the institution.

The Kean experience is meant to get students involved in activities and build associations with the rest of the Kean populace. With hundreds of options available at your fingertips, students can gain valuable skills by joining any of the various organizations, activities, and leadership rolls that are offered.

Student Media

A vital piece of the university is the production of media by students, whether it is informing the public by the student-run newspaper or newsletter, or being a member of the university’s radio station. There are many ways to participate and be a part of the Kean community.

The Tower and The Cougar’s Byte provide students with up to date news, art, housing, jobs, and items for sale.

Kean University’s Media Productions includes various videos relevant to student life, from the admissions video to the undergraduate commencement speech.

Kean Live gives us the opportunity to view webcasts of athletic events or events in Enlow recital hall.

Kean Radio offers a diverse choice in music, including the Weekend Spanish on Friday nights, and talking segments with hosts of the radio shows.

KeanXchange puts everything together, presenting the different social media accounts the university has to keep students and faculty updated, news on academic, research, and athletic subjects, and producing an outlet for students to voice their ideas.
