Welcome to the School of Communication, Media & Journalism (CMJ) at Kean University. At the School of CMJ, students can specialize in one of four major areas of study: Communication Studies, Media/Film, Journalism and Public Relations. In each of these disciplines, students not only focus on their respective major, but also learn valuable skills in:

•    problem-solving          •    team building          •    social media          •    multicultural communication

•    reporting                      •    video and film production           •    interviewing            •    listening

•    conflict management           •    writing                   •    creativity                •    critical thinking

By integrating the vast worlds of Communication, Media & Journalism, the School of CMJ enables Kean’s students to challenge themselves, push new boundaries in the exploration of human communication and helps them develop diversified skill sets that will directly impact their careers in this new century.

Additionally, CMJ students have an opportunity to gain practical expertise while working on the University’s award-winning student newspaper, The Tower, our chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), Morris Ave. PR, the campus radio station WKNJ-FM and/or the campus television station, Kean TV.

For all undergraduate students, in addition to major areas of study the School of CMJ also offers a Minor in Communication and a Minor in Social Media. Some Communication majors choose to continue their studies at the university and after earning their B.A., go on to obtain a Master’s degree in Communication Studies from the School of CMJ as well.

With respect to their academic achievements, School of CMJ students with a 3.3 G.P.A. (or higher) are invited to become members of Lambda Pi Eta, the national communication honor society, and/or AERho, the national broadcasting honor society.
