About

Prior to joining Kean, Dr. Tracey worked as a full-time research assistant at University of Medicine and Dentistry on a federally funded grant studying reading disabilities. She also taught special education briefly in New Jersey’s public school system. She is the author of Lenses on Reading: An Introduction to Theories and Models (2012) that is widely adopted, in its second edition, and translated into Danish and Korean.

Dr. Tracey serves as Secretary for the Literacy Research Association, a national community of scholars dedicated to promoting research that enriches the knowledge, understanding, and development of lifespan literacies in a multicultural and multilingual world. 

Department/division: Department of Special Education & Literacy, College of Education

Degree information: M.S. in Educational Administration and Supervision, 1982; and a Doctoral Degree in Learning and Teaching, 1994, both at the Graduate School of Education, Rutgers University. B.S., Psychology with certification to teach Early Childhood Education from Douglass College at Rutgers University. 

Courses taught: Language Arts/Reading, and graduate-level courses in Communication Science.
