About BFA Studio Art/Photography
The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) Studio Art/Photography has been designed to provide students with comprehensive technical and aesthetic training in photography necessary for employment within the field or to pursue a career in the fine arts. The option provides a unique perspective in which students will have the opportunity to study the complex relationships between photography as an art form, the evolving photographic aesthetic, the ever-changing technologies, and the utilization of photography as a communications tool.
The BFA Studio Art/Photography provides students with the opportunity to develop increasingly complex technological skills. The option will provide training in the technologies of black and white, color, large format, digital photography, non-silver and alternative processes, and other technological skills and related techniques.
Admissions requirements:
Freshman and transfer students applying for our Fine Arts BFA programs are required to submit a portfolio of 10-15 samples of their work including sketches, observational drawing and works in color. Three-dimensional work, photographs, prints, digital work or mixed media may also be included.
Portfolios are to be submitted digitally via SlideRoom.
Students who are accepted into this degree program at the time of the portfolio review are given “provisional” status. Provisional BFA majors must maintain a 3.0 GPA in Fine Arts and Art History courses. After completion of at least 30 s.h. in Fine Arts and Art History courses, all provisional BFA majors must successfully complete a second portfolio review process in order to attain “fully admitted” status.
