The Writing option provides extensive and personalized course plans in all types of creative and professional writing. Students learn to develop their own craft of writing and to understand how audience, purpose, and context interact and shape their writing. Advanced writing skills prepare students for careers in copyediting, publishing, marketing, public relations, social media, and more.
Both options, literature and writing, also serve as an excellent second major (or content area) for students planning teaching careers in early childhood, elementary, and middle school as the development of literacy is such a prominent part of the school curriculum at these levels. (State regulations require a second major (or content area) in the liberal arts for teacher certification in these fields.)
