Physical Therapy

Bachelor of Arts (B.A) in Biology General Option, B.A/Doctor of Physical Therapy Track

Please note:  The Kean-Rutgers 3+3 B.A./DPT dual degree program is no longer taking new students after Fall 2014 due to new Kean programs in development.

This is an undergraduate Program housed in Kean’s School of Natural Sciences. It is a Dual Degree Program (3 yrs undergraduate + 3 yrs doctorate) with Rutgers University School of Health Related Professions, Doctorate in Physical Therapy (D.P.T.)

Rutgers determines who is accepted into the doctoral program. Students who are ready to, apply early Junior Year to the Dual Degree Program. Applicants apply by October 1stof Junior Year of College for entry into doctoral program the following summer. For those admitted, the B.A. degree is awarded by Kean post successful completion of the 1styear of doctoral studies. For those not admitted, the B.A. Biology, General Option degree program continues thru completion. Many students apply early Senior Year to multiple DPT Programs.

  • Applicants apply thru the PTCAS The Physical Therapist Centralized Application Service, a service of American Physical Therapy Association (APTA)
  • Transcripts from all colleges/universities attended with grades of A/B in prerequisites
  • Graduate Record Exam (GRE) General Exam Scores
  • Internship/volunteer field experiences in 2 different areas of physical therapy
  • Two letters of recommendation from clinical sites where field experience was obtained along with one personal recommendation
  • Resume detailing experience which demonstrates interpersonal skills, leadership capabilities & general interest in healthcare profession
  • Ability to perform tasks & movements that require strength & endurance

*With qualifying placement test scores, these courses may be substituted with electives

  • Up to 7 courses in Free Electives* ---half of free electives must be 3000/4000

(*for those admitted into Rutgers DPT, the 1st year of doctoral work fulfills these courses for the bachelors degree; for those not admitted, complete all the named courses)
