About

Dr. Bonillas has been a resident faculty in the Department of Physical Education, Recreation and Health since 2003. In 2012, she published a human sexuality college textbook entitled, “Sexual Health in a Diverse World.” The second edition will be published in Spring 2015.  In 2011, she co-authored, with Dr. Elisha Nixon, the second edition of the health education college textbook entitled, “Listen Up! Student Voices on Critical Issues and Values in Real Life.” In 2011, she also secured a 5-year $875,000 state grant to reduce teen pregnancy and a 3-year $465,000 federal grant to decrease the risk of gestational diabetes in Hispanic pregnant women. 

Degree Information: Ph.D. in Human Sexuality Education, Widener University; M.A. in Social Psychology, Syracuse University; B.A. in Psychology, Mount Saint Mary’s College.

Courses Taught: Human Sexuality, Critical issues/Values in Contemporary Health

Primary Area of Expertise: Sexual health, with a focus on teen pregnancy prevention and improving pregnancy outcomes
