Professor Mascari has over 30 years of counseling-related experience in schools,outpatient treatment and family crisis. He has also served as a district director of counseling and student services, as well as executive director of a statewide alcohol and drug abuse prevention agency. For 10 years he was a member of the NJ counselor licensing board as chair for 8 years, and was President of the American Association of State Counseling Boards (AASCB) in 2006-2007. His research in the area of counselor licensing and professional identity led to the AASCB-ACA national summit 20/20: The future of counseling. Mascari is also a former President of the New Jersey Counseling Association (NJCA) and the New Jersey Mental Health Counselors Association (NJMHCA), and one of the founders of the New Jersey Council on Divorce Mediation. In 2012 he began serving a 5 year term on the board of the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Clinical expertise includes treating alcohol and drug counseling, trauma, and mediation. Some of Mascari’s published works include: CACREP Accreditation: A Solution to Counselor Identity and License Portability Problems (Journal of Counseling & development); 9/11: Lessons learned; The Best laid plans: Will they work in a real crisis; as well as 15 book chapters, and 2 books. The latest book, with Dr. Jane Webber is Terrorism, trauma and tragedies: A counselor’s guide to preparing and responding (3rd edition), published by the American Counseling Association Foundation (ACAF) in 2010.
