Educational Opportunities Center (EOF / EOC)

The mission of the Educational Opportunities Center is to provide access to higher education along with academic support services to students matriculated at Kean University via the alternate admission categories of the Passport Program, the Spanish Speaking Program and the state grant-funded Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Program.  The Center provides student-centered advising, counseling and academic support services to assist students in developing their intellectual, social, and personal goals.

The main objective of the three programs is to assure that all students obtain their baccalaureate degree and pursue professional fields of work or graduate studies. The support services offered by the Center complement those provided to all students by the University. The Center is dedicated to advancing Kean University’s dual mission of access and academic excellence. Students admitted into the Passport and Spanish Speaking programs are exclusively served for their first two years of college study before they are completely integrated into the general student population.

The Educational Opportunities Center (EOC) programs are designed to assist students who do not meet general admission criteria, but have the potential to succeed in a college environment. The programs provide the following services:

  • Individual & Group Tutoring
  • Academic Advisement/Counseling
  • Career Development Workshops
  • Internship Preparation
  • Academic Study Skill Workshops
  • Academic Level Class Meetings

Students enrolled in developmental coursework receive a wide-range of academic support services to assist them in successfully passing and entering college-level courses. In addition, only EOF students participate in a six-week Pre-freshman Summer Academy during July and August. The summer program provides 6 to 9 college-level credits depending on the results of students' placement exam. All three programs require attendance at a mandatory orientation. In addition, only the EOF and Spanish Speaking Programs accept transfer students. Candidates for EOC transfer admission must appear for an interview with the EOC program's transfer coordinator for an assessment of the student's financial eligibility and overall compatibility with the program's services. Students must also complete the Free Application for Federal Aid and a Transfer Aid Form. Transfer students will be assigned an EOC counselor.
