About

Dr. Boyd-Jackson served as president of the N.J. Chapter Association of Black Psychologist from June 1999 until 2002. She also served as co-chair of the N.J. Psychological Association, Academic and Scientific Affairs Committee from January 1998 to December 2001. Her research interests are in the area of understanding the psychosocial impact of racism, issues related to self-esteem, and racial identity.  She has presented on topics related to parenting skills, clinical disorders, racism and prejudice and also published in this area. Additionally, Dr. Boyd-Jackson maintains a part-time private practice in Union, New Jersey.

Degree Information: Ph.D. in Clinical/School Psychology, Adelphi University; M.A. Clinical/School Psychology, Adelphi University; B.A. Psychology/Dance, City University of New York.

Courses Taught: Contemporary Issues in Psychology: Senior Seminar, Psychotherapy and Counseling Techniques, Advanced Abnormal Psychology, Psychological Perspectives on Prejudice and Racism, Abnormal Psychology. 

Primary Area of Expertise: Clinical and Counseling Psychology, with a focus on issues related to depression, suicide and anxiety.

Advice for Students Preparing for Your Class: "Students need to make certain they are prepared for my class by purchasing the text and any other supplemental materials prior to the beginning of class and read the introductory chapters. In addition, please be prepared to participate in an interactive class that will require small group tasks and a great deal of discussion, homework, and experiential assignments."
