General Education Mentors (GEMs)

General Education Mentors are upper-class students selected and trained to assist first year students in their social and academic transition to Kean University.  

GEMs guide and mentor first year students through the following individual and group interactions:

• Placement testing and pre-advisement events
• Registration Days
• New Student Orientation (NSO)
• Serve as co-facilitators to transition to Kean classes
• Provide one-on-one peer mentoring to students in T2K
• Participate in year-round campus workshops and events
• Support the School of General Studies front office and math lab
