Photography & Videography Assistant – Student Job Description

The Photography & Videography assistant will play an active role in the Kean University Office of University Relations.  S/He will be responsible for documenting official Kean University events, editing pictures and video that will be used for internal and external communications.   He will assist in maintaining the Office of University Relations’ archive of digital images, video and other content. 

Responsibilities include:

  • working with clients to discuss the images they require and how they want to use them
  • carrying out research and preparation for a shoot
  • working in different locations and in different circumstances to get the right image
  • using an extensive range of technical equipment, including cameras, lenses, lighting and specialist software
  • communicating with subjects, putting them at ease, encouraging them and directing them
  • arranging still life objects, products, scenes, props and backgrounds
  • liaising with other professionals, including graphic designers and writers
  • managing and processing images; filing, cataloging and maintaining of database
  • preparing proofs for approval
  • compiling finished products for clients, such as albums and digital copies
  • understanding traditional film and digital photography and keeping up to date with industry trends, developments and new techniques
  • developing expertise with software to digitally enhance images by, for example, changing emphasis, cropping pictures, correcting minor faults, or moving objects around
  • assisting with administration and scheduling of work

Requirements:

  • Detail oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere
  • Available to work 15-20 hours per week
  • Creative self-starter who is comfortable taking initiatives and working in collaboration

Editorial Assistant – Student Job Description

The Editorial Assistant will play an active role in the Kean University Office of University Relations.  S/He will work with UR content creators to help create and publish content that is relevant to our audience; including current and prospective students, parents, alumni and community members.  S/He will research and write digital and print content for the website, social media, press releases and other print and digital marketing materials.  S/he will help devise plans to promote events and programs via social media and other outlets.  

Responsibilities include:

  • researching and developing content as directed by UR staff
  • updating posts to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn accounts
  • responding to posts or comments to engage with community and answer questions
  • posting news and announcements in a timely manner using appropriate content
  • performing research to find articles, stories, resources and other content relevant to our audiences
  • updating content on university web pages
  • other projects as assigned

Requirements:

  • Detail oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity and facility with mainstream social media platforms, included but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn
  • Available to work 15 hours per week
  • Creative self-starter who is comfortable taking initiatives and working in collaboration
