Kean, a comprehensive New Jersey state university, is seeking faculty and staff from all disciplines for its additional instructional location in Wenzhou, China. Launched in 2012, Wenzhou-Kean University (WKU) sits on approximately 500 beautiful acres and is now in the midst of a growth phase that will bring enrollment to more than 5,000 students. WKU offers a unique model of higher education provided by a comprehensive, public University, approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. All instruction is in English and all curriculum is provided by Kean USA.

Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs

Wenzhou-Kean University

Kean, a comprehensive New Jersey state university, is seeking an Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs for its additional instructional location in Wenzhou, China. Wenzhou is one of the most vibrant and economically advanced cities on China’s East Coast, located one hour by plane and just over three hours by high-speed train from Shanghai. Launched in 2012, Wenzhou-Kean University (WKU) sits on approximately 500 beautiful acres and is now in the midst of a growth phase that will bring enrollment to more than 5,000 students. WKU offers a unique model of higher education provided by a comprehensive, public University, approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. All instruction is in English and all curriculum is provided by Kean USA. Operations require full integration and cooperation between Kean’s USA location and the Wenzhou, China campus. 

Wenzhou-Kean University offers a competitive salary and benefits plan, which includes healthcare coverage and a partnership with the best medical hospital in Wenzhou. In addition, employees are provided with housing options, round trip airfare(s) and a reimbursement to cover relocation expenses.

Under the direction of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Kean’s USA campus, the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, Wenzhou-Kean University, manages and coordinates all activities related to the University’s additional location in Wenzhou, China; participates in the development of division-wide policies and procedures; provides managerial direction, support and service to the academic units; and does related work as required. This is a full-time position located at the Wenzhou-Kean University campus in Wenzhou, China. Travel is required to the Kean USA campus several times each year.

Qualifications: Master’s degree from an accredited college and six years of professional experience in higher education or a similar organization, with a minimum of three years in administration is required. A doctorate degree is preferred and can be substituted for one year of the required experience. Candidate must have excellent writing and analytical skills and a record of academic and administrative accomplishment commensurate with appointment to a high level administrative position in a large and growing university.

In addition, faculty and staff are provided with an annual housing subsidy, round trip airfare(s) and a reimbursement to cover relocation expenses. This position is contingent upon funding received from Wenzhou-Kean University.

Under the direction of senior administration in the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at the Kean USA campus in Union, New Jersey, the Director of Accreditation and Assessment at Wenzhou-Kean University will work closely with faculty, staff and University administration to develop, implement and manage comprehensive programs of assessment designed to meet both institutional strategic goals and accreditation standards; and does related work as required. This is an international assignment and the hired employee must be willing and able to relocate to Wenzhou, China. Travel is required to the Kean USA campus.

Qualifications: Master's degree from an accredited college and three years of professional experience in an institution of higher education is required. A minimum of two (2) years of the required experience must be in academic outcomes assessment and/or institutional assessment and related activities within a higher education setting. Experience with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) is preferred. An earned doctorate is also preferred and may be substituted for two years of the required experience.
