Department of Athletics and Recreation

Head Women’s Swimming Coach/Aquatics Supervisor
Assistant Director III

Reporting to the Director of Athletics and Recreation, the Head Women’s Swimming Coach/Aquatics Supervisor has the primary responsibility for coordinating and overseeing all aspects of the Women’s Swimming program and other aquatics activities with strict adherence to all NCAA, New Jersey Athletic Conference and Kean University rules and regulations.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: recruitment and retention of student-athletes; scheduling; fund raising; travel arrangements; budget; aquatics scheduling and programming; and performing related work as assigned by the Director of Athletics. This position requires travel and a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college; American Red Cross or equivalent Lifeguard Certification; and two years of collegiate coaching experience, as well as demonstrated skills in developing and motivating student athletes for athletic, academic and personal success is required. Current Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Certificate is required or must obtain the CPO within six (6) months of hire date. Master’s degree is preferred. Managing Administrative Assistant II Confidential

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Human Resources, the Managing Administrative Assistant is responsible for administering, coordinating and performing the routine professional functions necessary for the Office of Human Resources. This position requires participating in the formulation of managerial policies and procedures; processes incoming Open Public Records Act (OPRA) requests and Government Records Council (GRC) inquiries; oversees the processing of minor discipline cases; manages human resources communications; and performs related duties as required for the Employee Relations Unit.

Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience in Human Resources is required. Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute experience on a year-for-year basis. Residence Hall Director
(Professional Services Specialist IV)

Under the supervision of the Assistant Vice President for Residential Student Services and/or the General Manager in the Office of Residential Student Services, the Residence Hall Director (RHD) provides guidance, support and supervision of an educational housing facility housing 250-1,000 students. Primary duties include, but are not limited to: supervising student staff; facilities supervision; implementation of a comprehensive programming effort; crisis intervention; conflict resolution; acting as a hearing officer; community development; participating in an on-call duty rotation; and performing related work as required. The RHD works to create an environment conducive to academic excellence and fosters personal development and a sense of community within the living environment. Due to the required duties and functions of this position and the need for accessibility in the residence halls, this position requires a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours and on-campus residency which will be provided.  

Qualifications:   Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree and one year of professional experience in housing and residence life or a related student affairs position is required. Experience with residence hall student development, facilities operations and residence life programs in higher education is preferred. Telecommunications Manager 

Under the supervision of the Director of Systems/IT Operations, the Telecommunications Manager (Managing Assistant Director II) ensures that the University has a fully functional telecommunications infrastructure that supports the needs of students, faculty and staff. The Telecommunications Manager is responsible for all technical and managerial activities for an effective communications system, including the management of support personnel; developing and implementing goals, policies and procedures for the telecommunications infrastructure; leading efforts to integrate video, instant messaging and other emerging technologies into the University’s existing voice platform, with a focus on a mobile first, cloud approach; and performing related work as required.

Payroll Office

Managing Assistant Director III

Under the supervision of the Director of Payroll, the Managing Assistant Director assists in the day-to-day management of the Payroll Office and ensures compliance with all Federal and State payroll tax laws and Collective Bargaining Agreements. The Managing Assistant Director assists with the management of the weekly payroll process; participates in the development and implementation of policies and procedures; and does related work as required. Additional hours including evenings and weekends may be required in order to support peak payroll processing times and/or for special payroll projects and initiatives.

Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience in payroll operations is required.  Three or more years of payroll management experience with supervisory experience is preferred. School of Nursing at Kean Ocean

Associate Director III *Revised*

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Associate Director is the academic and administrative leader of the School of Nursing at Kean Ocean and is responsible for managing all program activities. The Associate Director is based at the Kean Ocean campus and assists in the administration of the Nursing Program at Kean Ocean; works with the Executive Director on new program creation and to develop and implement school policies and procedures; supervises University and School policies on office hours, time and attendance, student evaluation of courses, syllabi creation/submission, class cancellations and reporting; acts with the authority of the Executive Director; and does related work as required. In particular, the Associate Director will have the lead responsibility of developing a joint Generic BSN program between Kean University and Ocean County College. The Associate Director may be required to teach two in-load courses each semester (spring and fall) in addition to assigned managerial duties and responsibilities. This position is located at the Kean Ocean campus in Toms River, New Jersey. Travel will be required to the Union campus and other locations as needed. 

Qualifications: Doctorate degree and a valid Registered Nurse license in the State of New Jersey is required. A minimum of three years of experience in academic and/or clinical leadership roles; certification in a clinical nursing specialty; and experience with Generic BSN programs or pre-licensure programs is preferred. Under the direction of the Associate Director and/or the University Registrar, the Managing Assistant Director assists with the management, maintenance and evaluation of all curricula and degree audits and transforms processes by leveraging current and new technology within the Office of the Registrar. The Managing Assistant Director participates in the development of goals, policies and procedures for curriculum management which may involve development of university policy; and does related work as required. The Managing Assistant Director is a key member of the enrollment management team who works in collaboration with other managers within the division to provide essential registration and student support services to prospective and current Kean University students.

Associate Director III

Under the supervision of the Director of Health Services, the Associate Director assists in managing the daily operations of Student Health Services. The Associate Director supervises clinical staff; oversees policies and procedures utilized in Student Health Services; acts with the authority of the Director in his or her absence; and does related work as required. The Associate Director also acts as a Nurse Practitioner, providing appropriate preventive and episodic health care to students. The nurse practitioner assists students in identifying health risks and in assuming responsibility for the prevention of illness and the promotion, maintenance and restoration of health, as well as the appropriate utilization of health care resources.

Qualifications: Master’s degree from an accredited college in Nursing and two years of professional experience as a Nurse Practitioner is required. One year of nursing experience must be in an administrative or supervisory capacity. Additional requirements include: current licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse by the New Jersey State Board of Nursing; current licensure as a Registered Nurse in good standing by the New Jersey State Board of Nursing; current certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP); and current Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Professional Rescuer certification by the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.

Assistant to the President for Wenzhou-Kean University

Kean, a comprehensive New Jersey state university, is seeking an Assistant to the President for its additional instructional location in Wenzhou, China. Wenzhou is one of the most vibrant and economically advanced cities on China’s East Coast, located one hour by plane and just over three hours by high-speed train from Shanghai. Launched in 2012, Wenzhou-Kean University (WKU) sits on approximately 500 beautiful acres and is now in the midst of a growth phase that will bring enrollment to more than 5,000 students. WKU offers a unique model of higher education provided by a comprehensive, public University, approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

The Assistant to the President (Director II) reports to the President and works closely with Deans, Vice Presidents and the President to participate in the management and coordination of all operational areas related to Wenzhou-Kean University as assigned. The responsibilities of this position require an innovative, well-rounded manager with a strong acumen for coordinating many different diverse projects at once. The individual selected will be required to coordinate academic programming, student services, financial transactions and related operational issues that require full integration and cooperation between the Kean USA location and the Wenzhou, China campus. This position is located at the Kean USA campus in Union, New Jersey, but international travel is required as the employee will spend time at the Wenzhou, China campus. Travel may also be required to the WKU campus on short notice.

Qualifications: Master’s degree from an accredited college and a minimum of four years of high-level managerial experience is required. The Managing Assistant Director manages work operations, monitoring workloads throughout the department and coordinating staffing needs accordingly. The Managing Assistant Director will be responsible for implementing departmental policies and procedures; establishing goals and objectives which best meet the support requirements of the University; evaluating progress toward their achievement; and performing related work as required.

Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree; two years of professional experience in administration; and a driver’s license valid in the State of New Jersey is required. A minimum of five years of professional experience in a post office, large volume mail service environment or central receiving/warehouse environment is preferred. Lecturer, 12 Months/Clinical Supervisor
Multiple Positions

A Lecturer is a full-time employee who teaches and provides student support services, including general oversight of all clinically-related experiences during the assigned periods.  Lecturers work in and with host school districts in placing, preparing and guiding Kean education majors through their clinical fieldwork. The Lecturer ensures quality teacher preparation and professional development of teacher certification candidates; holds a strong commitment to teaching; maintains office and advising hours for students; attends university seminars as assigned; actively participates in the university community; and does related work as required. This is a non-tenure track position that may be renewed on an annual basis. Teaching assignments and related responsibilities may include weekdays, evenings, weekends and online courses/content delivery.  Interest or experience in using advanced instructional technologies to improve the teaching/learning process is highly desirable.

Positions are effective for the fall semester and are based at the Union campus but require travel to off-site public school settings including Professional Development Schools (PDS) and non-PDS partner districts throughout New Jersey. Responsibilities may include assignments at Ocean County College in Toms River, New Jersey, the Kean Highlands Campus in Jefferson, New Jersey or other locations.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in a related field; a minimum of one year of teaching experience at the post-secondary level or its equivalent experience as a public school teacher or administrator as determined by the university; appropriate State Teacher certification; and overall familiarity with K-12 school environments, NJ licensure codes and TEACHNJ is required. Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience in an institution of higher education, business environment or a related field is required, preferably working with an international and/or study abroad student population. Working knowledge and understanding of the following is preferred: federal visa and immigration laws and regulations, including familiarity with F-1 and J-1 regulations and use of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). Kean University is developing a state-of-the-art university-wide internship program in which students will have an increasing number of opportunities for quality experiential learning. Under the supervision of the Director of Career Services, the Managing Assistant Director of Internships manages the strategic execution of the internship process for students at all Kean University campuses including Union, Ocean and the Highlands and provides guidance and assistance to Wenzhou-Kean University, in China.

The Managing Assistant Director of Internships will manage the development and implementation of internships and other field opportunities; provide vision and direction through effective academic and employer collaboration and develop and maintain partnerships with employers and the business community; counsel students regarding internship opportunities and preparation; and perform related work as required.  This position requires travel and a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours.

School of General Studies

School Office Manager
Managing Assistant Director III

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the School Office Manager manages daily work operations for the School and is involved in all areas of planning and administration including student and faculty recruitment, budget development and personnel management.  The individual is responsible for the general management and supervision of full-time and part-time support staff, graduate assistants and student assistants assigned to the School and acts as a consultant and resource to School personnel and committees. The School Office Manager also ensures that all time sheets for faculty and staff are accurate and absence from work for all employees, including cancellations of class and office hours are promptly reported to the Office of Human Resources and the Office of the Dean.

The School Office Manager will be responsible for maintaining student, program and school records and will be involved in the development of school policies and procedures for the operational direction of annual processes and events; and also does related work as required. This position requires a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours. Off campus travel is required to Community Colleges, High Schools and other locations for outreach events and other activities.

Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience supervising office operations or working in an institution of higher education is required. A Master’s degree and professional experience providing student and/or faculty support services or managing office operations for an academic program in an institution of higher education is preferred.  Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.

Kean University is seeking a Reader that will work with a faculty member. The Reader will read aloud to the faculty member various printed materials and/or information from a computer screen that cannot be read by the adaptive computer equipment and software. The Reader will take dictation when the adaptive computer equipment and software cannot do so. Position is temporary and filled on a semester to semester basis, up to a maximum of 20 hours per week. Salary range is $9.50 to $16 per hour, and is commensurate upon experience.

The Reader's work schedule will vary each semester based on the faculty member's teaching schedule. We would prefer candidates that are available a minimum of 3 days per week, contingent upon the faculty members schedule.
