Home > Offices > Financial Aid > Summer 2016 Frequently Asked Questions

Are there funds available in the summer?

Yes. Kean students who didn’t use their full federal loan and Pell grant eligibility during the academic year may qualify for funding. The 2015-2016 FAFSA must be on file in Kean University’s Office of Financial Aid in order to be considered for awards. Contact the Office of Financial Aid at (908) 737-3190 or finaid@kean.edu for more information.

Am I required to register for a minimum number of credits?

Undergraduate and graduate matriculated Kean students must be registered at least half time during the summer in order to qualify for federal loans. The half-time registration requirement can be met by taking (2) 3-credit courses in one session or (1) 3-credit course in both summer I and summer II sessions

How can I apply for summer financial aid?

If you are currently a matriculated student at Kean University and you wish to receive financial aid to cover your summer courses, simply register according the scheduled registration dates and the Office of Financial aid will determine if you qualify for funding. You will receive either an award letter or an ineligibility notice through your Kean email.

Can a visiting student qualify for financial aid at Kean University?

Visiting students planning on registering for courses at Kean University must contact the Financial Aid office at their home institution to determine if funding is available.

Are there any other resources I may qualify for if I have exhausted federal loans?

Dependent, undergraduate students who have exhausted their annual federal loan limit can consider having their parent apply for the PLUS (Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students). If your parent is interested in applying for the loan the application can be found by logging into the www.studentloans.gov website. Another option, available to both dependent and independent students is private educational loans. Many lending institutions offer loans to cover educational costs; however eligibility will be based on an approved credit application.
